The importance of placing high performance air purifiers in hospitals and nursing homes have always been of utmost importance to protect the health of the more susceptible groups in the society. The hospital initially served patients of clans originating from  Guangdong and soon extended its arms towards the rest of the population. Years before the hospital’s lease ended in 2010, uncertainty shrouded its fate until then in November 2010 when Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong acknowledged the hospital’s contributions at its 100th anniversary gala dinner in and approved its application to stay and redevelop on its present site in Serangoon.

On this note, we celebrate as Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital marches into 105th year serving the country as a landmark nursing home to the elderly. With plans for revamp and expansion of the infrastructure since 2013 and its recent kickoff in reconstruction, the hospital is slated to become Singapore’s pride in nursing home and medical hub by the end of 2017.

The hospital aims to increase its capacity to 622 beds, twice the previous quantity, to cater for needy elderly groups in Singapore while providing other medical facilities such as dementia and neurology care for other patients. The space will also be open to the community to use and members of the public will be able to have meals in its foodcourt, go for health screening and even shop at its retail spaces.
